Here is another album I have been waiting for. Actually, I have been waiting 10 years. The group from Bristol, England that helped bring trip-hop to the masses is back with their third album.
The album opens with the track “Silence”, but this album is anything but silent. Beth Gibbons haunting voice lingers with Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley’s production and music direction.
“Machine Gun” literally sounds like a machine gun going off in the background. The acoustic guitar of “The Rip” is beautiful and tender against Beth’s voice. “Hunter” asks “If I should fall, would you hold me?/Would you pass me by?”. The riff goes from almost metal back to chillout. “Deep Waters” has a bluegrass feel and “We Carry On” has beats and riffs that smashes like waves on the shore.
